FOUNDER

I’ve always been interested in meeting people and learning about their work histories. In fact, in university I studied working class history and interviewed Victoria locals about their work histories for my undergraduate Honours thesis.

This facet of people’s lives fascinated me so much that, after graduating in 2005, I enthusiastically accepted a job as a staffing specialist with a leading temporary employment agency. In my new role, I screened about 25 résumés every day and conducted an average of 2 interviews every week!

Most of our clients were government offices and I took the old adage of “know your client” to heart. I quickly learned what government offices were looking for in a candidate as far as skills, experience and attitude.

When I left the temporary employment agency, I began working for government on auxiliary contracts. I loved the work but I was frustrated that I was stuck in clerical roles and having so much trouble getting a permanent position with government. I kept getting drawn back into the private sector but I knew deep down that the public service was my career path.

In 2011, I moved to Nova Scotia to complete a Master’s degree in Resource and Environmental Management. When I returned in 2013, I re-entered the private sector but one important transformation had occurred while I was away. My determination to do policy work in the public sector had become the foundation of my career goals and my vision for my future.

I began to pull together all that I had learned from the temporary employment agency and all the résumés and interviews I had completed. I began arranging informational interviews with anyone in government who would meet with me. I was asking managers and directors and BC Public Service Agency staff what they look for in a candidate. I gathered an overwhelming amount of information and developed my expertise.

By 2014, I was ready to use my expertise to not only get myself back into government, but also to help friends, and friends of friends, become successful candidates themselves. Since 2014, I have helped dozens of individuals with their job searches and applications and look forward to helping you, too.
